Traditional pagoda style buildings just a block away from modern structures. That sort of contrast is quite common in Japan.

Looking down Tokyo Tower.

Sign inside the Tokyo Tower. I think it's a secret code. Or maybe it's for aliens. Or i suppose it could just be braille.

This was probably my best picture of Fumiko.
|
Another one, brighter.
|
I tried photographing a cloud as it blew by. This was the result.
|
I sent Josh away so i could talk to Fumiko without him dominating the conversation. The next few photos are his from when he was off by himself.

Each statue represents a child who died. The family of each child keeps them clothed and maintained.

From the imagery and the writing, my guess is that this is a water access panel for firefighters.

Here's the last one from Josh' wandering. I'm not sure why he took one of this sign, but it is kind of pretty. The main design could be a clay pot, or a cat. The artist in me likes the ambiguity.

FIrst picture at the Edo-Tokyo Open-air Architectural Museum. Hayao Miyazaki visited this place everyday while working on the film Spirited Away.

Yuko by an old building.
|
The interiors were beautiful.
|
I wish i lived in a place like this.
|
I wouldn't mind a more modern roof though. Straw like this requires replacement every few years.

Tending the cooking fire.

And someone else tending the garden.

This is inside the bath house. When in service, there would have been a small bench in front of each faucet. To take a Japanese bath, you take one of the wooden bowls, sit on a bench and wash yourself. To rinse you fill the bowl with water and pour it over yourself. Then there is a large shared tub to soak in, after washing.
|
The communal tubs are at the back of the room.

A picture of Yuko taking a picture.

These display cases are in the middle of the changing room.

One of the gates to the Yokohama China Town.
|
Mmm. Coconut.

China Town after dark.

After a certain time cars are allowed on the streets.
|
Gate on the way out.

Yokohama Harbor.

Josh brought me back to the temple he found with the statues of small children. These are from that.

George Bush I planted this tree. It didn't look very healthy.
