Halloween games at the local English school.

Yuri caught a bat.

Yuri as Elsa, Emily as Anna, and a friend as Olaf.

Emily was curious about this alien.

Our jack-o-lantern, outside.

Nabe is a Japanese comfort food. Everyone scoops from the large bowl in the center of the table. Lots of veggies, tofu, fish, chicken, mushrooms, and maybe even some shrimp are hidden in there.

Pumpkin, the day after.

Ready to leave for school on a rain day.

Many restaurants in Japan have ash trays. One of the few areas in which the country is less advanced than the US is in how common smoking still is.

First course at Kaizen Ebizo, a rather fancy restaurant that Noriko took me to for lunch. The soup was a pumpkin cream.

Main course. The covered dishes have a seafood custard and some miso soup, respectively.

Dessert. The little ball on the right is a yuzu sorbet. Amazing.

7-11 has an Evangelion campaign.

Emily found a hole outside. She dropped pebbles into it.

Unaju, an expensive but not atypical supper. Unaju is a fresh-water eel. Its meat is soft and absolutely delicious.

I made hot cocoa for everyone, to use up some cocoa powder i'd bought earlier. Made it thick and not too sweet, just as i like it. The beverage was a big success; Emily especially liked it.

Traditional Italian pizza (cooked in a wood-fired oven, no less) is fairly easy to find in Japan.

Typical selection at a rolling sushi restaurant. These 2 pieces of nigiri were ¥100, about 80 cents.

Another ¥100 plate, this one is uni, or sea urchin gonads.

Trying to get a family portrait. Take 1.
