These spiders are just beautiful. And huge. Scary huge. I enjoy looking at them outside, but would not be happy to find one in the house.

We're about to ride this paddleboat.

In the boat.

Hello, turtle.

At a park by the paddle boats.

Doughnut time.

Besides the oddly-shaped green grasshoppers, Japan also has a species with morphology a bit closer to what we have at home.

My father-in-law's bonsai plants. At one point he had over 100. For the few that are left, i think my mother-in-law hires someone to come tend to them occasionally. I wish my father-in-law hadn't died so young; after my Japanese level got higher i wanted to ask him to teach me how to do bonsai.

Ryō-kun looking pensive. He's a cute dog, but camera-shy.

Looking regal.

Fresh figs. They were kind of weird.

I had to come up with my own lunch so i took a walk to the store and bought a milk tea and some negitorodon. Good stuff.

Small but delicious supper. Rice with sautéed onions and egg, and some shrimp tempura topped with green onions.

Candy cigarettes are still easy to find in Japan, in many flavors. Naturally, i had to try the matcha. Unfortunately, they're kind of disgusting.

This is a yuzu, my favorite citrus fruit. It is a bit early for yuzu which is why this one is such a light color; December is peak harvest.

Unfortunately blurry.
